From the Scalpel to the Screen: A Surgeon’s Leap into Filmmaking with a Story That Matters
In a world that often expects individuals to follow clearly defined paths, Dr. Mia Jan MALEKZADEH, a young surgeon based in Denmark, has always felt compelled to explore beyond conventional boundaries. His professional life has been shaped by precision, responsibility, and science, yet within him, there has always been an unshakable curiosity—an urge to venture beyond the confines of the operating room.
That passion for storytelling found its outlet in cinema, ignited by a pivotal experience at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Amid the glamour and prestige, what moved him most were the quiet, powerful moments shared in darkened theaters—stories unfolding on screen that captured the complexity of human emotions. It was during these screenings that he recognized the transformative power of film.
Just like surgery, cinema can cut deep—but with empathy.
Determined to pursue this newfound calling, Dr. Mia Jan MALEKZADEH immersed himself in the world of filmmaking—reading, watching, learning, and most importantly, listening. His journey led him to Mr. Luqman, a visionary director whose work had long inspired him. What began as a mentorship soon evolved into a collaborative mission—one centered on producing a film that not only tells a compelling story but sparks meaningful dialogue.
That vision materialized into « My Day », the debut project under their newly established production company, The M Production Company.
More than just a film, « My Day » is a conversation starter, a mirror held up to society, and a tribute to voices that often go unheard.
A Story Rooted in Realities
« My Day » follows Bayan, a 15-year-old girl growing up in Denmark, navigating the emotional tensions between self-identity and the expectations of her religious, traditional family. At its core, the film explores the silent struggles of adolescence, especially for those caught in the cultural complexities of immigrant life.
Bayan’s journey is captured in subtle yet profound moments—her lingering gaze in the mirror, the weight of a hijab resting on her dresser, and the quiet intensity of family dinners. The story reaches its climax when a parent-teacher meeting forces her father to confront her decision not to wear the hijab. What follows is not a dramatic confrontation, but a quiet reckoning—between a father’s authority and a daughter’s agency.
Under Mr. Luqman’s sensitive direction, the film steers away from sensationalism, embracing a minimalist visual approach with natural lighting, intimate camerawork, and sparse dialogue.
Every frame is crafted to reflect Bayan’s internal conflict—her confusion, her courage, and her quiet resistance.
Beyond the Screen: A Broader Purpose
While fictional, the themes in « My Day » resonate deeply with real-life experiences faced by many young people—especially those straddling multiple cultural identities. Across Europe, immigrant and diasporic communities continue to grapple with generational divides, identity politics, and autonomy. For young girls like Bayan, every choice becomes a battleground for acceptance and understanding.
Through « My Day », Dr. Mia Jan MALEKZADEH and Mr. Luqman seek to amplify these narratives—not just as filmmakers but as advocates for dialogue, representation, and cultural awareness. Their hope is that the film resonates with audiences from all backgrounds, offering a sense of recognition, reflection, or revelation. It is a story for anyone who has ever felt the pressure to conform, questioned societal expectations, or struggled to be truly seen by those they love.
A New Chapter Begins
Launching The M Production Company with « My Day » is more than just a creative milestone—it is a statement of intent. The company is committed to crafting stories that challenge, illuminate, and humanize. This film marks the beginning of a journey fueled by purpose and artistic integrity.
For Dr. [Name], « My Day » represents the convergence of two callings: the discipline of medicine and the emotional depth of storytelling. Both, in their own way, seek to understand and heal—whether through surgery or the art of film. In stepping behind the camera, he has not left his medical expertise behind—he has simply found another way to reach the heart.
