BUBU OGISI
“Our world is interpreted in different ways – Heaven, Earth and Below, the three shapes of time,” explains Bubu Ogisi of the concept behind her IAMISIGO SS25 collection. “Heaven has created us and is our preserver, our child and the fulcrum of our being. This vast Earth is our mother. Below resembles our father, the unknown.” For this story, the Lagos-born, Nairobi-based designer roams the rolling sand dunes of Mambrui with photographer Shitanda to ignite the gilt chainmail pieces in the collection. Made from recycled brass and handmade in Kenya, they reach for the skies under the East African sun, turning their wearer into a sexy celestial being. “Beautiful is the armour of the gods, made of gold, which shines in Heaven like lightning. It has been sprinkled with sacred water. The gods bathe in this holiest of waters. Donning their armour, they resemble the clouds.”
